As the St. George Marathon prepares for its 49th race, energy pulsates throughout Southern Utah

Weekend’s festivities start with Expo, Oct. 3; Marathon set for Oct. 4

ST. GEORGE — The culmination of an emotional journey for runners, volunteers and spectators alike is set for October 4 at 7 a.m. as the highly anticipated St. George Marathon begins. The 49th edition of this beloved race will involve nearly 8,000 runners from all over the United States and throughout the world.

“The St. George Marathon offers an unparalleled experience, showcasing the stunning landscapes of Southern Utah while challenging participants to achieve their personal best,” said Michelle Graves, Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services for the City of St. George. “We are thrilled to welcome runners from 47 states as well as 13 different countries in a celebration that is approaching five decades. As a marathon staff, we are committed to making this not only a race but a celebration of St. George and the natural beauty that surrounds us.”

Questions abound leading up to race day. Will Provo’s Michael Otteson repeat as Marathon champ? Will Kodi Kleven claim her third crown as the fastest woman in Southern Utah? J.J. Santana, a two-time winner, returns to St. George. Will he join the rarefied air of three-time winners? Those questions and many more will soon be answered.

The festivities begin with the St. George Marathon and Half Marathon Expo on Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dixie Convention Center. Participants are invited to pick up their race packets, while more than 35 vendors will have a variety of race-related merchandise, including official St. George Marathon souvenirs, available for purchase.

Later on Oct. 3, the St. George 5K and Fun Run Walk N’ Roll events will take place just outside the Dixie Convention Center. These events offer a great opportunity for athletes to participate in the St. George Marathon without tackling the full 26.2 miles. The 5K starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Fun Run Walk N’ Roll at 6:30 p.m.

On marathon morning, the Mayor’s Walk begins at 7 a.m. Led by Mayor Michele Randall, this 1-mile course starts at the Washington County School District parking lot, heads east on Tabernacle, down Main Street and across the marathon finish line at Vernon Worthen Park.

Spectators can find designated areas to watch and support runners here.
