Bring your kids and reel in the fun at St. George Fishing Derby, March 29 at the Upper Tawa Pond

ST. GEORGE — Grab your fishing rods and head to the pond! The City of St. George invites families across southern Utah to the annual St. George Fishing Derby, happening March 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Upper Tawa Pond (2200 West Snow Canyon Parkway).

This free, family-friendly event is open to anglers of all ages and skill levels, and no fishing license is required for kids 12 years old and younger to participate. Hosted in collaboration with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Southern Utah Anglers, the derby offers a unique opportunity for kids and their families to enjoy the outdoors, learn the basics of fishing and compete for fun prizes.

“The Fishing Derby is about more than just catching fish — it’s about creating memories, learning new skills and connecting with nature,” said Hannah Keller, Recreation Supervisor for the City of St. George. “It’s especially rewarding to see young kids experience the joy of fishing for the first time.”

With an expected turnout of around 400 participants, the event aims to create a love for outdoor recreation. Families can enjoy a morning filled with excitement, learning and a little friendly competition.
