ST. GEORGE — Gather up your group for an evening of culture and celebration at the St. George Museum of Art’s annual Day of the Dead event, November 1 beginning at 5 p.m. This year’s event promises vibrant performances, hands-on activities and meaningful traditions for all ages.
“We invite all members of the community to experience this unique cultural celebration,” said Kacey Carter, Special Events and Programming Specialist for the Museum of Art. “It’s one of our most cherished traditions, bringing families together to honor life, art and remember those who have passed.”
Highlights include a pop-up art exhibition featuring community submissions, a live dance performance from Ballet Folklorico Anayansi, a community Ofrenda and a floating remembrance tree. Families can also enjoy free horchata, children’s crafts, music, face painting and so much more. Admission is free and open to the public, and festivities continue through 8 p.m. on November 1.
The Day of the Dead, or Día de Los Muertos, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Families and friends gather to share memories, create offerings and honor the dead.
“The Day of the Dead is seen as a time to celebrate, not mourn,” Carter shared. “It’s a beautiful reminder that through art, community and memory, our loved ones live on through us.”
