Metropolis Man brings blues and soul music to free Concert in the Park, May 12 at Vernon Worthen Park

ST. GEORGE — Fans of Americana blues and soul won’t want to miss the May 12 edition of Concert in the Park, featuring Metropolis Man. The free performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at Vernon Worthen Park, where late-spring temperatures are sure to be ideal for music al fresco.

The four-member band is led by Alex Metropolis, who originally hails from Chicago, where he was heavily influenced by blues and soul. Later relocating to Arizona, Metropolis brought those musical ideas with him while attending college and playing in such local bands as Captive Cooks. He eventually formed Metropolis Man, focusing more on Americana and soul, and less on rock ’n’ roll, with a songwriting approach aiming for more vulnerability.

First recording and releasing “Thirsty Land,” “Enough for 3,” “Lullaby” and “One Little Life” to much acclaim, the band has since composed a wealth of material to be released throughout the year. Since 2022, Metropolis Man has been touring extensively throughout the Southwest, building a loyal fanbase and engaging with their followers on a personal level.

Now in its 21st year, Concert in the Park takes place on the second Monday of each month through September. As always, this year’s edition will feature an array of musical genres, including blues, rock, ‘90s dance hits, country and even a tribute to the Grateful Dead.

Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. at Vernon Worthen Park (300 S 400 E in St. George). Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic supplies as desired. The full concert schedule is available here.
