Pets aplenty converge on Tonaquint Park for third annual I Love Pets Race on January 31

ST. GEORGE — Animal lovers who enjoy taking a stroll with their favorite four-legged friends will have reason to celebrate on January 31, when the third annual I Love Pets 10K / 5K / 1 Mile Run gets underway at Tonaquint Park (1851 S. Dixie Drive) in St. George. This event welcomes all pets, whether they bark, meow, slither, or scuttle.

Participants can choose from a 10K, 5K, or a 1-mile Fun Run Walk N’ Roll, and join community members in celebrating their affection for animals. Even if runners and walkers do not have a pet, they’re encouraged to dress up as any creature they cherish, or simply come out to show their support for their furry – or not so furry – friends. This will be an untimed fun run.

“Road races typically forbid pets being anywhere on the course,” noted Aaron Metler, Recreation Manager for Races and Special Events in the City of St. George. “The I Love Pets race was specifically designed to include the animals that are a part of our lives. Many people run with their dogs; we look forward to seeing them at this event!”

All three races are open to all ages and abilities. The 5K participants and their pets will complete one loop from Tonaquint Park to Cottonwood Cove Park and back; the 10K will be two loops of the same course. The Fun Walk N’ Roll begins at 10 a.m., then both the 10K and 5K events will commence at 10:20 a.m. An aid station at Cottonwood Cove Park will provide water (for humans and their pets) as well as Gatorade for the two-legged athletes.
