ST. GEORGE — Fulfilling its mission to celebrate the art of the evolving American West, the St. George Museum of Art will unveil its new “Unbound: Art of the West” exhibit on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The show is being presented in partnership with Modern West Fine Art, which was founded in 2014 by art collector and philanthropist Diane Stewart to support established and emerging artists who challenge traditional understandings of the West. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the gallery reaches national and global audiences.
“This collaboration represents the most significant partnership to date for the St. George Museum of Art,” said St. George Museum of Art Manager and Curator Meagan Evans. “Modern West represents a diverse group of internationally acclaimed artists, and we are looking forward to sharing their thoughtfully curated exhibition in Southern Utah.”
Unbound: Art of the West reflects on Modern West’s history and a passion for forging new ground in an ever-evolving art community. From modernists Louis Ribak and Beatrice Mandelman, who left behind their New York City lifestyle to pursue their work in the vast Western landscape, to the stable of Modern West’s innovative contemporary artists, the exhibition is inspired by works that push the parameters of what art has been and how it can move forward –– it is ambitious, inspiring and unbound.
Featured artists include Shonto Begay, Michael Coles, Shalee Cooper, Angela Ellsworth, Phil Epp, Alexandra Fuller, Kiki Gaffney, Sheldon Harvey, Suzanne Hill, Jim Jacobs, Beatrice Mandelman, Ed Mell, Arlo Namingha, Stanley Natchez, Kevin Red Star, Louis Ribak, Billy Schenck, Woody Shepherd, Ben Steele, Eugene Tapahe and Mike Whiting. The exhibition runs through May 31. All art is available for acquisition through Modern West.
Said Modern West Director + Curator Shalee Cooper, “When Modern West opened back in 2014, Diane Stewart’s vision was the same as it is now: to showcase artworks that embody the spirit of the West. We are eager to reflect on our history by bringing in artists we opened the gallery with, and look forward to a future with collaboration at the forefront of our programming.”
An opening-night reception will be held at the St. George Museum of Art on March 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served while supplies last. Admission to the reception and the Museum are free; donations are encouraged.
