ST. GEORGE — The City of St. George invites the public to attend a special dedication ceremony for the Tonaquint Cemetery Expansion on April 8, at 9 a.m. This event, which will take place on the southwestern part of Tonaquint Cemetery (1777 S. Dixie Drive), will commemorate the addition of five acres to the cemetery, ensuring a beautiful and tranquil space for generations to come.
As part of the ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to write the names of their departed loved ones on cardstock paper and take part in a group photo commemorating the event.
“This expansion is not just about adding space — it’s about creating a serene and sacred place where families can find peace, remembrance and connection,” said St. George Mayor Michele Randall. “The thoughtful design and additional features ensure that Tonaquint Cemetery remains a place of beauty, reflection and respect for all. We hope you can join us the morning of April 8 and remember your loved ones who have passed.”
The expansion adds capacity for 2,500 additional burial plots, including approximately 800 designated upright headstone areas. Additionally, a new section will offer 1,000 columbarium niches for those choosing cremation.
The cost of the cemetery expansion was approximately $2.9 million.
