UAMPS Announces Second Year of Scholarship Program to Support Future Energy Leaders

[SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH] – Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) announced it will award scholarships for a second consecutive year in 2026, continuing its support for students pursuing education and career pathways connected to the future of energy.

UAMPS, in partnership with its member utilities, will award eight $2,500 scholarships to eligible high school seniors. The program reinforces UAMPS’ long-term workforce development efforts by encouraging students to pursue education and training tied to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy.

“Investing in the next generation of energy professionals is critical to the future of public power,” said Mason Baker, CEO and general manager of UAMPS. “By continuing this scholarship program into its second year, UAMPS is helping students build pathways into an industry that plays a vital role in strengthening our local communities and supporting long-term energy reliability.”

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school seniors who will attend a post-secondary 2-year or 4-year college or educational trade program
  • Reside in a household within a UAMPS member municipality or entity participating in the Steel Solar (A) or (B) project: Blanding, Bountiful, Ephraim, Fairview, Fillmore, Heber, Hurricane, Hyrum, Lehi, Logan, Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, Paragonah, Payson, Price, Santa Clara, Springville, St. George, Washington, and any city serviced by Southern Utah Valley Electric Service District
  • A GPA of 3.0 or above
  • U.S. Citizen

Application Process:

Applicants must submit a 500 to 1,000-word essay, written in your own words and without the use of AI, discussing:

  • The benefits of renewable energy
  • Your planned field of study
  • How your educational and career plan will promote or advance the use or production of renewable energy

Submission Guidelines:

  • Include a cover page with your name, high school, date, email, phone number, and address (please do not include your name on any other pages of the essay)
  • Attach a copy of your most recent transcript as the final page
  • Submit the essay and transcript via email to rhonda@uamps.com
  • Submit essays by midnight on February 28, 2026
  • Successful applicants will be notified by phone and email by March 31, 2026
